Powering Outdoor Small Cells
Demand for 5G services and more wireless capacity are exploding. Small cell densification is a key part of the solution, but the sheer number of new small cells needed can run into the thousands. Each requiring efficient and reliable power and backup.
The world’s aging power grids can be unreliable and running separate power drops to each small cell takes time and exacts a heavy cost—on your budget and the environment. You need a better solution for quickly delivering always-on, high-efficiency power to your small cell network.
Meet PowerShift® Metro, an innovative, end-to-end solution that lets you power, backup, backhaul and manage clusters of small cells from a central location, up to two miles away.
With PowerShift Metro, you can:
- Lower deployment cost up to 50% vs separate grid connections
- Schnellere Markteinführung
- Ensure service continuity during a grid failure
- Enable peak shaving to reduce operating costs
- Reduce congestion at the pole
- Create a future-ready power infrastructure
The heart of PowerShift Metro is the power hub—ac power supply, rectifier and battery backup—that can be deployed from any central location or macro site. Fed by the grid, each hub provides a voltage boosted powered DC bus and backhaul to as many as four small cell clusters and supports a variety of topologies. Each highly configurable power hub has its own backup battery string. So, you can dynamically manage the energy needs of each small cell. Take advantage of peak shaving and load balancing when grid demand and costs go up and ensure network continuity when the grid is down. Good for you, your customers and the environment.
