Building on CommScope’s E6000® CER and C100G I-CCAP, vCCAP Evo provides cloud-native, highly-scalable and highly-available CCAP functionality, which allows service providers to seamlessly deploy future-proof, next-gen DAA technology.
Features and Benefits
Building on proven and refined I-CCAP product capabilities
Scalable Solution
Refer to the Data Sheet for additional information.
- Flexible management by CLI, SNMP, Netconf/Yang carried over from I-CCAP
- VoD, SDV, Broadcast video support (video must be pre-encrypted)
- DOCSIS® 3.0/3.1/3.1E
- D4.0 via a simple software upgrade as demonstrated at CableLabs®
- Low Latency DOCSIS (LLD)
- Full support for PMA APIs
- Dynamic IUC allows for real-time OFDMA optimization
- Routing (BGP, ISIS, OSPF, RIP, MPLS, VRF) integrated into vCCAP Evo; no need for expensive routing equipment to make the move from chassis to DAA
- Integrated with Viavi/Kronback and multiple Top of Rack/CIN switch vendors
Scalable Solution
- Cloud native; Network functions composed to support seamless scaling with containers using Kubernetes orchestration; Control Plane (CP) and Data Plane (DP) logically separated (can also be deployed on the same server if desired = “converged” solution)
- High Availability: 1+1 Control Plane (CP), N+M Data Plane (DP); Disaster Recovery/Geo-redundancy coming in 2025; TOR/Management switch redundancy supported.
- Relies on COTS server hardware with no custom hardware requirements, ensuring server hardware selection based on MSO preferences.
- Supports up to 2 Control Planes (CP) and up to 16 Data Planes (DP) per vCCAP Evo instance.
- Delivers up to 180 Gbps per RU with AES encryption on Sapphire Rapids Dual NUMA Intel CPU servers with QAT technology. This opens the path for transitioning desired DOCSIS capabilities to a highly scalable platform with a fraction of the RU/Power and Cooling Consumption/Space requirements than before. For example, one of our template solutions offers 128 service groups (SG) in 2 RU with 1+1 HA.
- Subscription-based gNMI pull/push being added in 2025 to support Streaming Telemetry for data consumers. Opens path to a much more scalable and flexible PNM solution than the legacy SNMP/IPDR approach.
- Select your preferred x86 server/switch/PTP clock vendor to deploy the vCCAP Evo application or procure all components via CommScope. We will support you from initial design to deployment.
- Choose an optimized set of servers for each site without overspending on unnecessary hardware. Options include smaller pairs of converged 1+1 servers, medium clusters with separate CP and DP hardware, or large clusters from the outset using 32-core dual-NUMA Data Plane servers to achieve industry-best throughput per-RU. All options allow for future growth without impacting service.
- vCCAP Evo can be deployed as vCCAP or vCMTS primary DOCSIS Core with a separate Video Aux Core such as CommScope’s VUE.
- Full support for third-party OOB Cores or Traffic Engines such as Kronback Tracers.
