Connecting the next billion humans to each other -- via the internet -- is one of the largest and most important endeavors of our time. Providing connectivity, communication, entertainment, information and help is both vital and momentous. ARRIS – teaming with both Facebook and Google – is on the leading edge of this global campaign.
Let me explain…
Today, we are announcing the next step in our journey to connect the Next Billion. ARRIS, through our Ruckus Networks, has been doing amazing work with Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi initiative and are continuing this effort by joining the Express Wi-Fi Certified program. Together with Facebook, we are working to bring fast, reliable Wi-Fi connectivity to emerging economies in Africa, India, Indonesia and Latin America.
Our work with Facebook follows our recent announcement with Google. Google Station centers on Wi-Fi installations that are pivotal to projects in developing countries. We are a preferred supplier for the deployments in India, Mexico and Indonesia. Google Station now delivers free, public Wi-Fi to 400 train stations in India, serving more than 8 million people. You should take a look at Google’s video about this huge project. It’s a great example of how our technology helps create entirely new markets around the world.
We have installed hundreds of Wi-Fi hotspots as part of these initiatives, and we expect to complete thousands more over the next several years. The work is complex as we’re helping operators and service providers develop novel business models to bring low-cost, high-bandwidth wireless connectivity to public areas, including airports, schools, and mass transit stations. Our Ruckus operator-grade solutions are robust, easy to set-up and manage. They are ideal for the complex needs of these developing regions.
Our participation in these initiatives with Facebook and Google highlights ARRIS’s true global nature. We provide the solutions that move “Constant Connectivity” from a dream to reality. We are connecting more people and more businesses than ever before. Our acquisition of Ruckus Networks was a major piece of our long-term strategy and is the key piece in connecting the Next Billion.
