October 22, 2018 Hickory, NC

The trip to Atlanta for 2018 SCTE•ISBE Cable -Tec Expo is an award-winning one for CommScope, who will take home three different honors for innovative solutions and two team members’ legacy of service to the broadband community.

Jim Hughes, CommScope’s vice president of multi-system operator sales, will be inducted into the SCTE•ISBE Hall of Fame at a reception on Wednesday, Oct. 24. A 35-year industry veteran and 28-year SCTE•ISBE member, Hughes was nominated and endorsed by three Hall of Fame members. Hughes has served on both the SCTE•ISBE and SCTE•ISBE Foundation boards, as a member of the executive committee and chair on the nominations and governance committees.

“Jim’s proactive approach, his willingness to roll up his sleeves and get to work, and his passion for the industry and SCTE•ISBE all have helped the society remain in step with the evolution of our industry,” said Mark Dzuban, president and chief executive officer of SCTE•ISBE. “But what has defined Jim’s career more than anything else has been his sterling reputation for honor and integrity. We’re grateful to him for his contributions to SCTE•ISBE and look forward to benefiting from his wisdom and counsel for many years to come.”

Also at Cable-Tec, CommScope’s Chris Ewing will be named to the 2018 class of Cable TV Pioneers. Currently vice president of service provider sales, Ewing has spent nearly 12 years at CommScope and several more in technical positions elsewhere. It’s a career he dedicates to his father, who also served in the cable industry until his retirement in 2000. Finally, Broadband Technology Report will name its Diamond Review winners in Atlanta, including CommScope’s UDS (ultra-density splice) panels. Honored for the innovative nature of the solution by cable telecommunications and engineering experts, these new panels provide extreme port density in a modular, compact design that helps transition to high fiber counts. CommScope received a “high score” award from the publication and will be honored at a separate reception Monday, Oct. 22.

The Cable-Tec Show will also feature thought leadership from the CommScope team in Booth 1037 and in the workshop tracks. The booth will feature solutions for outside plant, MSOs and wireless. Erik Gronvall, CommScope’s vice president of strategy for service providers, will speak on a panel called “What Small Cell Wireless Wants (and Needs) From Us” on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 10:15 a.m. Gronvall’s white paper on cable’s role in the 5G evolution will also be published in SCTE outlets after the show.
